The version used for AI Mode has been tailored to handle intricate queries that require contextual understanding. Unlike the current search experience, which primarily presents a list of links, AI Mode introduces overview-style answers directly within the search page. These summaries provide key information upfront, followed by a list of related search results to help users explore topics further.
Google’s internal communication shared examples of the kinds of questions AI Mode is designed to address. These include practical, multi-layered queries such as “How many boxes of spaghetti should I buy to feed 6 adults and 10 children, and have enough for seconds?” and “Compare wool, down, and synthetic jackets in terms of insulation, water resistance, and durability.” The feature can also handle follow-up queries, demonstrating its ability to guide users through a more comprehensive search journey. For example, after asking what supplies are needed for aquascaping, a user can follow up by inquiring about nearby stores to purchase those supplies.
The interface for AI Mode blends familiar elements of Google Search with new interactive features. The page retains its standard filters for Images, News, and Shopping, but now incorporates a “dig deeper” text box, allowing users to refine or expand their queries. Search results are presented alongside the AI-generated responses, offering multiple pathways for users to find information. This hybrid approach ensures that users can still access traditional search results while benefiting from the AI’s ability to synthesize relevant content.
